Welsh Lib Dems welcome plans for future Youth Travel Pass scheme.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have welcomed Government plans to introduce a new Youth Travel Pass scheme from 2018.

In the last Assembly the Welsh Lib Dems secured a concessionary transport pilot scheme (“MyTravelPass”) to support young people in accessing public transport for work or training.

The MyTravelPass pilot scheme will come to an end in 2017 when the new ‘Youth Travel Pass’ scheme will be launched in 2018.

Commenting, Welsh Lib Dem Spokesperson for Young People, Cadan ap Tomos said;

“This is welcome news for young people. Affordable public transport is key to enabling young people to access work, education, training and apprenticeships.

“The Welsh Lib Dems secured the original pilot scheme because we know that young people are unfairly penalised by high fares when travelling to work or training.

“I am pleased that the lessons learnt from the pilot scheme will be implemented for the new scheme so young people can access to the opportunities they need to get on in life.

“Once again we can see the influence the Welsh Lib Dems are having right across Government.”
