Welsh Lib Dems call for Wales' creative industries not to be 'left behind'

Following the announcement that the BBC will introduce a new TV channel for Scotland, to begin broadcasting in autumn 2018, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have called for plans to be extended to Wales.

Commenting, former Wales Office Minister Baroness Jenny Randerson, said;

“This is welcome news for Scotland, but the omission of Wales from these plans risks leaving Wales’ creative industries behind. Wales must also have its own channel.

“We must welcome the increasing level of license fee funds spent in Wales on programmes such as Doctor Who and Sherlock, but I see no reason why Wales should be left out from these ambitious plans.

“The Welsh Liberal Democrats also call for an increase in the investment for Welsh speaking provision in Wales, following the budget investment of £1.2m for Gaelic channel BBC Alba.”
