Mental health and well-being at universities will be supported by £2million of new funding, following an announcement made by Welsh Liberal Democrat Education Minister Kirsty Williams today.
The funding will improve training and awareness, strengthen support systems, and promote information, guidance and resources at universities.
It will be allocated by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. Kirsty Williams’ annual remit letter to the organisation stressed the need the strengthen work around well-being.
Jane Dodds, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said:
“Supporting mental health and well-being is a key priority for the Welsh Liberal Democrats. It is a priority we took into our work in the Welsh Government and today’s announcement will see further progress being made.”
Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Education Minister, said:
“This funding will support students and staff to help ensure that the university experience is one that promotes mental health and well-being for everyone.
“University education can bring immense opportunities but such a big step is not without its challenges. We have a responsibility to ensure people are supported to make the most out of university, as part of efforts to improve well-being across the entire education sector.”
