I am writing to you today to express my displeasure with your insistence on taxing the Covid service reward here in Wales.
On 1st May, the Welsh Government announced a £500 'Thank You Payment’ for our hard working social care workers.
This payment is only now beginning to be made because you have insisted upon taxing it.
It's shameful and cruel for you to insist that this reward be taxed and leave those on Universal Credit worse off.
We are still battling the Coronavirus and should be thanking those who are working hard to keep us safe and well.
That is why I ask that you to not tax this payment and ensure carers who recieve Universal Credit are not penalised for getting it.
This is the least we can do to honour their dedication and service during this pandemic.
