Nick Clegg launches Welsh Lib Dem General Election Campaign

The Liberal Democrats will continue to build a stronger economy and a fairer society for Wales, Nick Clegg has said today as he launches the Welsh Liberal Democrats' General Election campaign.

Speaking ahead of a visit to Panasonic Manufacturing in Cardiff Central with Jenny Willott and leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Kirsty Williams AM, Nick Clegg said:

"Liberal Democrats will continue to build a stronger economy and a fairer society for Wales.  We'll build on our work in Government to deliver economic growth that benefits all of the UK.

"The Tories and Labour's over-reliance on the financial sector in London didn't deliver for Wales.  With our relentless focus on manufacturing and apprenticeships, we are showing a new way doing things.

"Labour's poverty of ambition held us all back for too long; in contrast we've delivered over two million apprenticeships so everyone has an opportunity to make a success of their lives.  Over the next parliament, we'll build on this apprenticeship revolution.

"Both Labour and the Tories are a threat to our strong economic recovery.  The Tories want to cut, cut and cut - not because they have to but because they want to. Labour's addiction to borrowing and debt will risk our recovery.  Put simply: the Liberal Democrats will borrow less than Labour and cut less than the Conservatives - guaranteeing an economy that delivers for everyone across the UK."

Jenny Willott, the Welsh Lib Dem candidate for Cardiff Central, added:

“Over the weekend the Liberal Democrats knocked on our millionth door since the start of the new year – a remarkable achievement.  Our party has the best campaigners in the businesses and each and every one of them will play a key role in this election.

“The people of Wales have a clear choice: Labour will borrow too much, risking the economy. The Tories will cut too much, threatening public services and sacrificing the least well off. Plaid will have no influence in Westminster, leaving Wales isolated and underfunded.

"It is only the Lib Dems that will balance the budget by 2018, cut taxes for low and middle earners and ensure decent public services, creating opportunity for everyone."
