Calls reiterated for Welsh Government to Close Qatar Offices After Death of British National

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have reiterated their calls to the Welsh Labour Government to shut down their offices in Qatar after a British national was found hanged in the country. The calls come as Qatar has already come under increased scrutiny for its poor human rights record, particularly its treatment of workers on the construction of the World Cup stadiums.

Labour in Denial Over Extent of Social Care Crisis

Responding to reports that up to 1,500 people are medically fit but cannot leave hospital because of a lack of social care, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have accused Labour of being in denial over the extent of the social care crisis in Wales. The party is also supporting calls to pay carers at least £15 an hour.

Liberal Democrats Pledge Support for Royal College of Nursing Campaign on Safe Nursing Levels

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have pledged their support to a petition by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to expand the safe and effective nursing care levels in Wales to cover mental health inpatient wards and community nursing.

The petition being debated in the Senedd on September 28 has gathered almost 11,000 signatures across Wales.

The original safe staffing levels legislation (Nurse Staffing Levels Act 2016), was introduced by the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

Liberal Democrats Outline Key Demands for Welsh Agriculture Bill

Responding to the statement from the Minster of Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths on the introduction of the Welsh Agriculture Bill. Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds has outlined the key demands from her party for the future development and passing of the Bill.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have outlined three key changes in the current proposals that they want to see changed, namely:

1) For food production to be classed as a ‘public good’ for which farmers will be rewarded with funding.

2) For hedgerows to be included in the 10% target for tree cover.

3) Welsh Government should listen to, and adopt, the recommendations of the Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee’ in relation to NVZs including derogation.
