The latest fall in unemployment in Wales has shown the tough decisions taken by Liberal Democrats in Government have been worth it, party candidate Jane Dodds has said.
Figures released today show that unemployment in Wales was down 12,000 over the last quarter. The unemployment rate also fell over the quarter, by 0.8 percentage points, currently standing at 6.2 per cent.
Wales has the fastest growing employment rate of any region of the UK, as well as the fastest falling unemployment rate.
Jane Dodds, the Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate for Montgomeryshire, said:
“Let’s be clear – this economic recovery would not be happing had Liberal Democrats not taken difficult decisions in Government. We have record numbers of people in work across the UK, fewer young people out of work and over 2 million young people starting apprenticeships thanks to the Liberal Democrats.
“But in this election the economic recovery is at risk. Labour’s lurch to the left with their plans for reckless borrowing would be disastrous for our economy, as would a lurch to the right under the Tories with their unnecessary, ideologically-driven cuts.
“Now, more than ever, the people of Wales need Liberal Democrats in Government, to keep it anchored in the centre ground and prevent lurches to the extreme left or right. We are the guarantors of the economic recovery, with our plan to balance the books but to do so in a fair way. Only with the Liberal Democrats in Government can you be certain of both a stronger economy and a fairer society.”
