Jo has been an active member of the Liberal Democrats since 2015. She is the Lib Dem Group Leader on Monmouthshire County Council and has chaired the Democratic Services Committee and Period Dignity Working Group for the Council. She is a mother of two school age children, runs her own small business and took on running a local Food Bank at the start of Covid-19.
Jo is passionate about education and is a keen advocate of the new Welsh curriculum. She has a particular focus on supporting increased nursery provision and wrap-around-care, as well getting children access to special educational needs provision where they require it. She also wants to see targeted investment in Apprentices, Further and Higher Education linked to emerging industries and technologies, to enable Wales to punch above its weight on the global stage.
Taking a proactive approach to planning, Jo believes strongly in building sustainable homes and communities, not just cramming in houses and flats. She has fought vigorously to ensure that the many new housing developments spring up across the region have appropriate school, health and transport infrastructure in place before they are built, rather than allowing existing services to be overloaded.
Also a keen environmentalist, in 2019 Jo successfully persuaded Monmouthshire County Council to make a cross-party declaration of a council-wide climate emergency. She believes that swift action on climate change is not just necessary to secure a safe and prosperous planet for future generations, but also represents an opportunity for growth in new skills, business, jobs and innovation across Wales.
