FUW warns of Brexit impact on Welsh farmers

FUW have today warned that Welsh farmers in Snowdonia could be “wiped out” by Brexit.

A third of Wales’ population live in rural areas where farming and agricultural supply chain businesses are the backbone of local economies. The Welsh Liberal Democrats have been calling for ‘Not a Penny Less’ to be spent on farming in Wales.

Commenting, Welsh Lib Dem Leader Mark Williams said;

“The Tories are hellbent on dragging Wales out of the single biggest market in the world, choking off vital investment and imposing tariffs on our world-class produce.

“We have been clear from the start, Wales’ farmers should not receive a penny less when we leave the EU. We will not allow the Tories to sacrifice towns and villages across rural Wales in their disastrous plan for the UK.

“Of course, Theresa May could do the right thing by Wales and abandon her plans to take us out on the single market, but then we can't trust Theresa May to lift a finger to protect farmers in Wales.”
