Education is the best way to give children the opportunity to reach their full potential, wherever they live and whatever their background. But our education system is at risk: the Welsh Labour Government is failing our children and young people. From an unambitious schools system slipping down international league tables to a university system starved of cash, Labour's poverty of ambition is holding our children back and eroding their opportunity to get on in life.

Welsh Liberal Democrats secured £282 million for the poorest pupils in Wales to help close the attainment gap between them and their peers through our Pupil Premium; extended support to under 5s, and introducing tax-free childcare to save parents £400 per child on childcare.

Our manifesto commits us to go even further. We will double our Pupil Premium to £2,500, ensuring our poorest pupils can benefit even further from extra support. We will protect the education budget in England, which means more money coming to Wales too. We will ensure every child can read and write English and Welsh and has a good grasp of maths.
