Brendan D'Cruz: Email #4

Dear/Annwyl x,

I hope this final email finds you well.

Dw i’n gobeithio eich bod chi’n ddiogel ac yn iach.

I hope you manage to find some time this summer to have a proper holiday. I am married to a teacher who has been working exceptionally hard over the last few months under extraordinary circumstances, and so making the most of this summer has been a priority for her and my children. That’s understandable. Perhaps after this selection contest we will be able to focus on that.

It is hard to believe that only 4 years ago I was cheering on Wales at the Euro 2016 football tournament in France. I had hoped to do the same this year at Euro 2020. I guess this will have to wait until next year, which could be an incredibly busy but hopefully productive year for everybody.

Dw i’n gobeithio rhyw sut fyddech chi gyd yn gallu mwynhau’r haf er gwaethaf yr amser heriol dyn ni’n gwynebu ar hyn o bryd. Mae fy ngwraig i yn athrawes sydd wedi bod yn gweithio’n hynnod o galed dros y misoedd diwethaf o dan amodau eithafol o heriol, felly mae hi wedi bod yn edrych ymlaen at fwynhau’r haf gyda ein plant. Efallai ar ôl yr etholiad yma fe fydda i’n gallu helpu hi i gyflawni’r nod yma.

Mae’n anodd i gredu mai dim ond pedair mlynedd yn ôl ro’n i’n cefnogi Cymru yng nghystadleuaeth Ewro 2016 yn Ffrainc. Ro’n i’n edrych ymlaen at wneud yr un peth eleni, ond wrth gwrs bydd rhaid i ni aros tan flwyddyn nesaf - gobeithio bydd 2021 yn flwyddyn prysur ac addawol i ni gyd.

It’s Decision Time!

You should have already received many emails from both candidates (plus all the national leadership emails!), perhaps even had a chance to view the recorded hustings. Hopefully, there is enough there to help you to make an informed choice on who you want to lead the list in South Wales East. I hope you will consider me as your first preference.

Let’s not kid ourselves, getting more Lib Dem members into the Senedd is not going to be easy. The Welsh Lib Dems have had a torrid time in recent years, whereby no matter how hard our campaigners have tried across our region they have often struggled to keep their deposits. We went backwards on the list in 2011 and 2016, and it will be a considerable effort to deliver a positive result in 2021. We will need more funding, more activists and better digital campaigning, but we will also have to connect with people that we have failed to engage with in the past across the whole of our region. We need to do things differently, not focus on more of the same. Whoever you pick to top the list must help deliver that, but they must be supported by campaign teams and a Welsh Party with candidates working in all 8 constituencies using their time and energy to deliver success.

I will leave you by mentioning the new Fforwm Radical Forum that I have been involved with, looking to bring radical new ideas and perspectives to the policy development of the Welsh Lib Dems. After the General Election in December it was clear that things need to change, and as a party we need to do much more to articulate what we stand for and why people should vote for us. I am sure that with your help, creativity, energy and enthusiasm, the Welsh Lib Dems can achieve much success and make the difference that our supporters and our communities both want and need.

None of us is as good as all of us, working together.

Amser i ddewis

Erbyn hyn dylech chi fod wedi derbyn sawl neges e-bost gan ymgeiswyr, ac efallai dych chi wedi cael cyfle i weld ein gweithgareddau ar-lein. Gobeithio bod digon o wybodaeth gyda chi i wneud penderfyniad sicr. Dw i wir yn gobeithio wnewch chi fy ystyried fel eich dewis cyntaf.

Dyn ni ddim yn dwp. Dyw’r nod o gael mwy o Ddemocratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru yn y Senedd ddim yn mynd i fod yn hawdd. Dyn ni wedi gwynebu amser caled yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf er gwaethaf ein ymdrechion caled yn yr ardal. Aethon ni lawr ar y rhestr yn 2011 a 2016, ac fe fydd yn her anferth i gael canlyniad positif yn 2021. Bydd angen mwy o gyllid, mwy o leisiau, ac ymgyrch digidol llawer gwell, ond yn bennaf bydd rhaid i ni gyfathrebu gyda’r bobl dyn ni wedi ffaelu denu yn y gorffennol. Mae angen i ni ganolbwyntio ar y pethau dyn ni angen wneud yn wahanol, ac nid ar y pethau does dim angen i ni newid. Yn sicr bydd rhaid i bwy bynnag dych chi’n dewis atgyfnerthu’r nod yma, ond ar yr un pryd, bydd angen iddynt dderbyn cefnogaeth gan dîm o ymgyrchwyr ym mhob ardal er mwyn llwyddo ar raddfa eang.

Y peth olaf dw i eisiau rhannu gyda chi yw i sôn am y gwaith dw i wedi bod yn gwneud gyda Fforwm Radical Forum, sy’n tynnu sylw at gysyniadau a safbwyntiau newydd wrth ddatblygu polisiau y Democratiaid. Ar ôl yr etholiad mawr ym mis Rhagfyr, roedd yn amlwg iawn bod angen i bethau newid, ac fel plaid mae angen i ni wneud llawer mwy i fynegi yn glîr beth yw ein coelion ac egwyddorion, a pham ddylai pobl bleidleisio drostyn ni. Dw i’n siwr gyda eich cefnogaeth, eich creadigrwydd ac eich brwdfrydedd, fy fydd Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru yn llwyddo i greu gwahaniaeth gweladwy yn ein cymuned.
