Brendan D'Cruz: Email #2

Dear/Annwyl x,

I hope this email finds you well. I’m Brendan D’Cruz, and I’m hoping that you will give me your first preference to lead the South Wales East list in the Senedd elections in May 2021.

Dw i’n gobeithio eich bod chi’n ddiogel ac yn iach. Fy enw i yw Brendan D’Cruz a dw i’n gobeithio fe wnewch chi fy enwebi fel eich dewis cyntaf i arwain rhestr De Dwyrain Cymru yn etholiadau y Senedd, Mai 2021.

We need to build on the community’s response to the pandemic

I’d like to thank all those that have been helping others during the pandemic, including key workers in health, care, education and retail sectors who have been truly amazing, but also the many charitable groups and volunteers that have stepped up to show how resilient communities can be when working together. As a Trustee of a Childcare and Family charity based in Aberfan, I have been involved with coordinating the delivery of food parcels, wellbeing packs and prescriptions to very many vulnerable and sheltering people during lockdown. This work will continue after lockdown because I will be working hard with others to:

  • Build collaborative third sector networks to protect community organisations so that they can survive and then thrive in the future. This will be difficult given massive funding deficits and the detrimental impact of Brexit, but we need to build on increased community spirit and improved collaboration between agencies that has been so successful recently.
  • Tackle loneliness and isolation: I am leading an inter-generational local community project to develop new services for vulnerable, lonely and isolated people, for example Men’s Sheds, youth digital engagement activities, walking sports to promote wellbeing, and activities to bring people together and keep them connected.
  • Ensure that childcare is affordable and accessible – this will be invaluable as people return to work, look for jobs and try to get enough money to support their families.

Mae angen i ni adeiladu ar ymateb y gymuned i’r pandemig

Hoffwn i fynegi diolch i bawb sydd wedi bod yn helpu eraill yn ystod y pandemig, yn cynnwys gweithwyr hanfodol yn yr adrannau iechyd, gofal, addysg ac adwerthu sydd wedi dangos nerth anhygoel, ac hefyd i’r elusennau a gwirfoddolwyr sydd wedi camu ymlaen a dangos pa mor gryf mae cymuned yn gallu bod pan rydym yn gweithio gyda ein gilydd. Fel ymddiriedolwr dros elusen gofal plant a theulu yn Aberfan dw i wedi bod yn helpu trefnu anfon pecynnau bwyd a gofal i nifer o bobol fregus yn ystod y cyfnod hunan-ynysu. Bydd y gwaith yma’n parhau ar ôl y lockdown achos fe fyddai’n gweithio’n galed i:

  • Adeiladu rhwydwaith yn y trydydd sector i amddiffyn sefydladau’r gymuned fel eu bod nhw’n gallu goroesi a thyfu yn y dyfodol. Fe fydd y dasg yma yn heriol oherwydd digwyddiadau diweddar, yn cynnwys effeithiau Brexit, ond mae’n bwysig ein bod ni’n adeiladu ar yr egni cymunedol sydd wedi galluogi llwyddiant hyd yn oed yn ystod amseroedd lletchwith.
  • Gwrthwynebu’r problemau sy’n codi o unigrwydd. Dw i’n arwain prosiect cymunedol i bob oedran i ddatblygu gwasanaethau newydd i bobol fregus ac unig - er engrhaifft - gweithgareddau digidol i bobol ifanc, chwaraeon, cerdded a gweithareddau eraill sy’n dod â phobol at ei gilydd.
  • Sicrhau bod gofal plant ar gael i bawb - bydd hwn yn hanfodol tra bod rhieni yn ail-ddechrau gweithio neu’n edrych am waith er mwyn ennill digon o arian i fwydo eu teuluoedd.

We need to address rising poverty and enable social justice for all …

I have spent more than a decade working with communities across South Wales on a range of investment and development projects, but there is still much to do. So many communities have been left behind by Westminster and Senedd policies that do not address the real challenges people face, meaning that statistics on food poverty, fuel poverty and in-work poverty are much higher than they should be. Too many people just do not have enough resources to meet their needs, therefore food bank usage is soaring. The ineffective benefits system and Universal Credit are failing too many families. And, tragically, child poverty is an aspect that needs critical attention. You can read some recommendations from the Bevan Foundation here:

Mae rhaid i ni gwrthwynebu tlodi a hybu tegwch i bawb …

Dw i wedi treulio mwy na deng mlynedd yn gweithio yng nghymunedau ar draws De Cymru ar nifer o brosiectau buddsoddiad a datbylgiad, ond mae llawer o waith i’w wneud. Mae cymaint o gymunedau wedi gollwng tu ôl oherwydd polisïau yn y Senedd ac yn San Steffan sydd ddim yn cydnabod y heriau dydd-i-ddydd mae pobol yn gwynebu, sy’n meddwl bod yr ystadegau ar dlodi bwyd a thanwydd llawer yn uwch na dylen nhw fod. Mae gormod o bobol yn byw heb yr adnoddau i gyd-fynd ag eu anghenion, ac mae’r nifer o bobol sy’n dibynnu ar fanc bwyd wedi bod yn esgyn yn gyflym. Mae’r system Universal Credit yn gadael llawer iawn o bobol i lawr, ac yn waeth byth, mae tlodi plant angen sylw mewn argyfwng. Dych chi’n gallu darllen rhai o argymhellion Sefydliad Bevan yma:

Why should you choose me?

  • I am passionate about community development and want better provision and support services for vulnerable young people, older people and families
  • I want to implement transport systems that work, including more buses and train services that are available when and where people need them, cycle routes to encourage sustainable travel, and locating more jobs in places that people can easily get to
  • I will make sure that recovery from the pandemic considers our diverse communities because people’s circumstances are different, no individual or group should be disadvantaged

None of us is as good as all of us, working together.

Pam dylwch chi ddewis fi?

  • Dw i’n angerddol am ddatblygu’r gymuned ac eisiau cefnogaeth a gwasanaethau gwell i hen bobol, teuluoedd ac hen bobol
  • Hoffwn i sefydlu systemau teithio sy’n gweithio,  yn cynnwys mwy o wasanaethau bws a thrên ble mae’r angen, ac i ychwanegu mwy o lwybrau seiclo er mwyn hybu arferau teithio sy’n well am yr amgylchedd
  • Dw i’n mynd i sicrhau bod y broses o ail-adeiladu ar ôl y pandemig yn ystyried anghenion y gymuned i gyd. Mae anghenion ac amgylchiadau pobol yn amrywio a ni ddylai unrhyw grwp neu unigolyn derbyn anfanteision oherwydd hwn

Does dim un ohonyn ni sy’n well na phawb yn gweithio gyda’n gilydd
