“Co-operative working is the best way forward for education” says Aled Roberts

Commenting on today's announcement on the Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance Arrangements in Wales (the Diamond Review) Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Education in the National Assembly, said:

"The current method of HE funding in Wales is unsustainable and the review is both necessary and welcome.

"It is particularly helpful that the Minister has asked each of the opposition parties here in the Assembly to nominate an individual to join the Review Panel, and our representative, Dr. Michael Woods, will bring a great deal of academic and political expertise to the table.

"Today's announcement marks a step-change by the Education Minister towards a more inclusive and co-operative approach to education issues in Wales and shows that the Minister is now prepared to lead by example.

"This review will be a lengthy process, but I am pleased to say that having pushed for there to be a mid-review report before the Assembly elections in 2016 and having that accepted, I look forward to receiving regular updates as the panel's work progresses".
