Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams has reiterated the Welsh Liberal Democrats’ opposition to grammar schools returning to Wales after a cross-party report raised concerns about plans to expand grammar schools in England.
Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams said:
“We have absolutely no plans to return to a selective education system.
“All the evidence suggests that returning to a grammar-style system would increase inequality and hurt the prospects of poorer pupils.
"We are currently engaged in an ambitious programme of education reform firmly focused on driving up standards and helping every learner in Wales, whatever their background, fulfil their potential.”
