Veronica German

Candidate for Monmouth

Veronica has been campaigning in the Monmouth area for the last 30 years and lives in the constituency.

As the Assembly Member for South Wales East, which includes the Monmouth constituency, Veronica held the roles of the Shadow Minister for Health, Local Government and Equalities. She fought for improved local health services highlighting the need for an anti-stigma campaign for mental health.

As an experienced County Councillor, in southern Torfaen and previously in Newport, Veronica always spoke up for more power to be given to local communities, particularly when they felt their voices were not being heard.

Veronica continues to campaign for the scrapping of the Severn Tolls and improved transport links across South East Wales to boost the local economy.  She will encourage local businesses to take on more apprentices to ensure a brighter future for all irrespective of background.

Veronica studied Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Aston and Birmingham Universities.  She made a decision to persuade more girls to take up engineering by teaching Physics up to ‘A’ level.  This was followed by 20 years of experience in schools in South East Wales adding the teaching of Maths and ICT to Physics and Science.

Veronica is currently the Chief Executive of Dolen Cymru, the Wales-Lesotho Link - an international development charity working with partners in Lesotho in southern Africa, which has been devastated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
