The Welsh Liberal Democrats have backed the Cymorth Cymru led campaign to protect the Supporting People Programme and praised the vital funding the programme provides to organisations supporting vulnerable people.
On Friday Cymorth Cymru are leading a Day of Action whilst homelessness charity The Wallich are launching their own Housing Matters campaign to supplement this work.
Welsh Liberal Democrat Housing Spokesperson Cllr Joe Carter commented:
Across Wales charities and local authorities are running successful projects to help homeless people off the street and give them ongoing support. If Supporting People is merged into other grants, the risk is that important projects will have to close.
Wales needs more investment in homeless prevention, not less. When increasing numbers of people are at risk of homelessness, we must expand not reduce the support available.
The Welsh Liberal Democrats will continue to support Cymorth Cymru, The Wallich and countless other vital organisations. We call on the Welsh Government to protect the Supporting People Programme and urge everyone to join us and support the Housing Matters campaign.
