Spokesperson for an Equal Wales
Born in Pontypridd, Rhys attended Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen before going on to Bangor University to study before returning to Cardiff.
Rhys was elected to Cardiff City Council in May 2017. As a Councillor, Rhys speaks on behalf of the Cardiff Council Liberal Democrat Group on issues relating to education, employment and skills. Rhys is the Liberal Democrat representative on Cardiff Council’s Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee.
Rhys is committed to issues relating to child and youth services, education and the Welsh language. His other key interests include diversity in democracy and LGBT equality. Rhys has led campaigns to improve standards in the Private Rented Sector, investment in sexual health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, and concessionary fares for young people.
Rhys has been a School Governor for a number of years, including for two Welsh-medium schools in Cardiff. He is also a Charity Trustee, and served as the Chair to the Board of Trustees as President of Bangor University Students’ Union.
Rhys is the Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Fair Wales, speaking on issues relating to children, young people and equalities issues.
