Candidate for Pontypridd
Mike Powell has again been selected to contest the seat in the Pontypridd constituency.
Born and bred in the constituency, a seasoned campaigner and a popular figure in the area, Mike was recently re-elected to represent the Trallwn ward on RCT County Borough Council with an overwhelming majority.
He says that this election gives the people of the area an opportunity to judge whether they are being best served by the current MP or whether it is time for a change. He says now is the time to elect someone who will put them and the constituency first, someone who will stand up for what is right and what is fair.
Mike is passionate about education and has battled long and hard against changes in Rhondda Cynon Taff which he believes adversely affect children there - the cutting of nursery education for example.
He has also campaigned on other constituency wide issues such as the removal of Police services and the magistrates' court from Pontypridd, and against the downgrading of the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
The lack of ambition and imagination of the Labour party he believes is letting the area down, stifling economic growth and regeneration.
