Ambulance dispute must be brought to an end – Kirsty Williams

Kirsty conference stageWelsh ambulance workers affiliated to the GMB union have voted in principle in favour of industrial action, and to call a vote of no confidence in the Welsh Ambulance Trust management.

Although another ballot will need to happen before any industrial action is taken, this news is a damning judgement on the failure of the Welsh Labour Government to properly run our health service. Any industrial action is likely to be 'working to rule' and not a full-blown strike.

Kirsty Williams AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said:

"It's completely unacceptable that the Welsh Labour Government has allowed the relationship between ambulance staff and management to unravel to this extent.

"Our ambulance service and its hardworking staff is already stretched to the limit. Any industrial action is likely to make things even worse, and must be avoided at all cost.

"The Welsh Government needs to bring both sides to the negotiating table and bring an end to this dispute as soon as possible, for the sake of our ambulance service and the people of Wales."
