‘Welsh Lib Dems have long supported further devolution of energy consenting powers’ - William Powell AM

Commenting on the publication of the Environment & Sustainability Committee's follow up report on their inquiry into energy policy and planning in Wales, William Powell AM said:

"I very much endorse this report. The Welsh Liberal Democrats have long supported the further devolution of energy consenting powers to Wales. Clearly, if Wales is going to compete with nations around the world to attract green investment and grow our rural economies, we need to have a level playing field.

"It is especially important that a greater focus is given to Wales' marine consenting powers which are presently limited to only a single megawatt. This is woefully inadequate in enabling Wales to take the lead in marine renewables.

"I am keen to see further powers devolved as part of the Silk Commission. Liberal Democrat colleagues in London were instrumental in establishing that Commission for Wales, and it is scandalous how the Conservative Party continues to stall the UK Government's response.''
