Responding to the news that employment in Wales has increased by 10,000 over the last quarter and that 32,000 more people are in work than this time last year, Eluned Parrott, Shadow Minister for Business and Enterprise, said:

"These figures are good news. As we all know, the economic climate across Europe has made life incredibly difficult, however the labour market in the UK has remained strong. Wales' unemployment rate is higher than England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but today's figures show that things are going in the right direction.

"Welsh Liberal Democrats are working to build a stronger economy and a fairer society. We want to see Welsh business thrive and have the confidence to take on more staff. For that to happen, we need both the UK and the Welsh Government's working well together. Our priority now must be take concerted action to tackle youth unemployment and disengagement if we are to build a workforce for the future and give our young people the opportunities they deserve.

"To build a stronger economy in a fairer society, Liberal Democrats have been focusing on giving people the skills and experience necessary for a successful career. That is why Nick Clegg has introduced the £1bn Youth Contract that will ensure young people have the opportunity to earn or learn and Business Secretary Vince Cable has overseen the creation of more than 1m apprenticeships. There is a success story to tell, but there can be no room for complacency."
