Commenting on his appointment, Aled Roberts AM said:

"It's essential that older people in Wales have voices from all political parties in the Assembly representing them. Given that Wales has a high proportion of older people than the rest of the UK, it is even more important that we voice their concerns to the government. I am proud to have been chosen to take on this role.

"For too long, older people in Wales have been ignored by the Welsh Labour government. In addition to formalising this position of responsibility, we are also calling on the Welsh Labour government to work more closely with the Older People's Commissioner in developing the strategy for older people, create schemes to monitory dignity and care and develop a strong and independent advocacy service in Wales."
