Minister confirms ‘No progress on City Centre Convention Centre’

January 9, 2013 3:09 PM

During Economy questions this afternoon, Labour's Economy Minister Edwina Hart has confirmed that she has "No progress to report" on Labour's plans for City Centre Convention Centre.

Commenting on this disappointing news, Liberal Democrat Shadow Economy Minister Eluned Parrott AM said:

"This will come as a blow to businesses, hoteliers and restaurants across Cardiff who had been counting on a significant investment from both The Welsh Government and Cardiff Council to make the long standing ambition of a Convention Centre in Cardiff a reality.

"This week, we've had confirmation from the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport that they are considering building a centre on their own site which will further risk the financial viability of a Centre in Cardiff.

"Both the Labour Government and the Labour run City Council have previously stated their ambitions for the city in attracting this sort of investment and yet we find that in her first questions of 2013 the Economy Minister has made no progress in delivering this vital project for our nation's capital."

"This will come as a disappointing blow to many so early in the new year."
