AM calls for clarification on transport plan “priorities”

December 8, 2011 11:46 AM

Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for North Wales, has called for clarification on the Welsh Government's plans for transport in North Wales.

Commenting on a list of priorities announced by the Local Government Minister today, Aled said:

"The announcements in the National Transport Plan contain some good news for the region, and I welcome the confirmation of funding for improvements to the A470, Wrexham Industrial Estate access road Phase 2 and the construction of a cycling/walking path from Pontcysyllte to Chirk.

"However, plans for the doubling of the railway track between Wrexham and Chester are not at all clear.

"We are told that detailed design work will be undertaken next year on redoubling the line between Wrexham and Saltney but there is no timeline as far as actual construction is concerned.

"The plan states that the track between Gowerton and Loughor in South Wales will go ahead in 2013/14 but where is the firm commitment to the completion of the Saltney project which, after all, was announced three years ago?"
