Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, used yesterday's statement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the Global Economy to call for the Government to increase its support for rural economies.

Roger Williams said:

"In times of financial difficulty it can very easy for governments to take their eye off rural areas, I used today's statement on the global economy to make sure this government continues its support for rural people.

"I emphasised to the chancellor that investment in rural areas provides excellent value for money in terms of the potential growth. I will be putting forward submissions to the chancellor on ways the Treasury can help stimulate rural economies.

"I was very encouraged by George Osborne's response, particularly in terms of the Government's investment in rural broadband in Wales which will really help the people and businesses of Brecon and Radnorshire."
