WASTE WATCHERS - Day 16: The escalating costs of spending on external consultants

April 19, 2011 11:59 AM

The Welsh Liberal Democrats will expose an example of the waste and inefficiency of Labour and Plaid Cymru in government on each day of the Welsh general election campaign

Welsh Liberal Democrats have criticised the Labour-Plaid government for the escalating costs of spending on external consultants

Research released by the Welsh Liberal Democrats in March 2010 revealed that over the previous five years the Labour-Plaid Government spend on external consultants increased from £1.9 million to £11.2 million.

Peter Black, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Candidate for South West Wales said:

"I understand that governments need specialist external services on occasion but spending £11.2 million on consultants at a time when money is tight and public sector jobs are at risk is hard to justify.

"It seems that the Labour-Plaid government is willing to allow its own bureaucracy and spending to increase while front line services take the hit.

"During the Welsh General Election Campaign the Welsh Liberal Democrats will expose examples of waste and inefficiency of the Labour-Plaid government during their four years in government.

"When every family, charity and business is having to make every pound stretch that little bit further, Wales needs a government that does the same. Labour and Plaid Cymru have turned waste, incompetence and inefficiency into an art form."
