Welsh Liberal Democrats have today selected their candidates who will fight the Mid and West Wales regional elections to the Welsh Assembly in May 2011.

A democratic all member ballot in Mid and West Wales selected the following to stand as Welsh Liberal Democrat candidates for the Welsh Assembly elections in 2011:

1. William Powell

2. Mark Cole

Commenting, Cllr William Powell, lead candidate on the Mid and West Wales list said:

I am absolutely delighted to have been selected to lead the Welsh Liberal Democrat Mid and West Wales list for the 2011 Assembly elections. There is firm support for the Welsh Liberal Democrats across the region, from our strong support in Brecon and Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire, to the phenomenal surge in Ceredigion and our growing support in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

Cllr Mark Cole, the Number 2 said:

With Plaid Cymru having let down our rural communities and having broken key pledges to promote the Welsh language, the Liberal Democrats are well placed to win more seats and more influence in Mid and West Wales.

Kirsty Williams AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats said:

William Powell and Mark Cole have both been active in their communities as County Councillors in Powys and Ceredigion for a long time. Their long record of service to both the community and the Liberal Democrats make them strong and powerful team for Mid and West Wales.

Notes to Editors:
