Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats said:"Nobody can detract from Rhodri Morgan's commitment to Wales and todevolution. Rhodri has always been a kind and extremely personablecolleague, a real people-person. I'll miss our political sparring andeven his rugby anecdotes in the chamber but it really is time for afresh start, fresh faces and fresh ideas in Cardiff Bay."

"Rhodri has single handedly held Welsh Labour together for nearly adecade. Without Rhodri's leadership, Labour really do face disaster inthe forthcoming General election."

"Whoever steps into Rhodri's job will face huge challenges: the toughestbudget the Assembly Wales has seen, the loss of the talented JaneDavidson and Brian Gibbons and a party in chaos. While Labour consumethemselves, our party will carry on analyzing public budgets, listeningto voters and developing the policies that will get Wales back ontrack."
