University bursary scheme must not be the limit of investment - Randerson

November 19, 2009 10:22 AM

Commenting on the announcement of the £33m of European money to set up the Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship (KESS) to promote collaboration and business training, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Economy Minister, Jenny Randerson AM said:

"This is welcome, but I sincerely hope that this is not the limit of the Government's investment in collaboration between business and education.

"Ultimately, while welcome, this is European money and the Government needs to spend many millions more of its own cash on encouraging high value investment in Wales through collaboration schemes.

"When you compare this investment to the 5% cuts that Labour and Plaid Cymru are demanding of our universities and colleges next year, we will need to see a lot more to make a difference and build a new economy based on high value investment."
