Members of Cardiff Central Liberal Democrats have selected Eluned Parrott AM as their candidate for the 2016 Welsh Assembly elections.
Eluned was elected as the Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for South Wales Central in 2011, and since her election she has served as her party's Shadow Minister for the Economy, Business, Transport and Europe. In her first year as an Assembly Member she won the ITV Wales Politician of the Year 'One to Watch' award.
She is recognised for her work on a number of issues as an Assembly Member, and was widely praised for speaking candidly about her own experience with mental health issues while fighting to improve experiences of those with mental ill health in Wales.
Eluned, a graduate of Cardiff University, has lived and worked in the city for over 20 years. She has worked in marketing for major Cardiff employers such as Techniquest and Cardiff University.
Cardiff Central is the most marginal Assembly seat in Wales, with just 38 votes separating the Welsh Liberal Democrats and Labour at the 2011 elections.

Following her selection, Eluned Parrott AM said:
"It's a huge honour that local people have backed my record of delivery and promise of more and selected me as their Prospective Cardiff Central Assembly Member. I will keep working hard over the coming months to stand up for Cardiff, supporting Jenny Willott MP and our fantastic team of councillors and campaigners.
"I know that if we want Cardiff to thrive and prosper, we must make our city an enjoyable and accessible place to live, work and visit. I've already fought to secure funding for the Bay Eastern Link Road which will go a long way to reduce traffic in the city centre and our residential streets. Having also secured planning work for the South Wales Metro, as Cardiff Central's AM I will fight tooth and nail to make sure this vital public transport project becomes a reality.
"I want to use my experience in marketing to sell Cardiff to the world as a place to come and do business. I will continue to work to clean up Cardiff's streets so the millions of people who visit our city every year don't leave with a bad impression, and our residents can live in tidy neighborhoods again."
Kirsty Williams AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, welcomed Eluned's selection. She added:
"Eluned is a dedicated Assembly Member who works hard to get things done for her constituents. I know she will continue to be a fantastic asset for Cardiff Central, and I have every confidence she will be returned as their AM in May 2016."
