Jenny Willott, MP for Cardiff Central, has welcomed the UK Government's response to a report on cross border road and rail links between England and Wales by the Welsh Affairs Committee.
The report emphasises the importance of the UK Government working with the Welsh Government to improve infrastructure links across the English-Welsh border and makes several recommendations of instances where closer cooperation is needed.
In its response the UK Government accepted the majority of the Committee's recommendations and committed to continue to work closely with stakeholders, including the devolved Administrations, to identify current and future transport problems and the range of potential solutions.
Commenting, Jenny Willott said:
"Good, accessible, affordable transport links are essential for any economy to thrive. For Wales, this clearly requires strong cooperation between the Welsh and the UK Governments, but whilst this is an obvious point it is easy in the day-to-day run of things for different departments to end up working in silos.
"I am delighted that the Welsh Affairs Committee is monitoring and highlighting instances where cross-governmental interaction needs to be stronger. We need to ensure Wales gets the fair deal which is not only essential for the development of the Welsh economy but will also have significant benefits for the UK as a whole."
