Minister for the Welsh Language Alun Davies has announced that former Welsh Lib Dem AM Aled Roberts will lead a review of local council's Welsh in Education Strategic Plans (WESPs).
Local authorities have a statutory duty to produce Welsh in Education Strategic Plans, which outline challenging targets for developing Welsh medium education in their areas.
Aled Roberts was Assembly Member for North Wales between 2011 and 2016, and was the party's Spokesperson on Education, Young People and the Welsh Language.
Alun Davies AM told Assembly Members:
“Aled will bring his considerable experience and keen eye for scrutiny to this role. A solicitor, former local authority leader, school governor and of course Welsh Liberal Democrat AM, Aled has the background and experience I need to get at the root cause of why Welsh language planning is not as effective as we need it to be."
Congrats on your appointment @AledRoberts2016 - looking forward to seeing real improvements to the WESPs system and to Welsh medium schooing— Cadan ap Tomos (@CadanapTomos) March 14, 2017
