Reacting to the publication of Prof Graham Donaldson’s Successful Futures review into curriculum and assessment in Wales, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Minister Aled Roberts AM said:
“This is a detailed and well-considered report which gives plenty for politicians and the teaching profession alike to consider. Time should now be taken to consider the contents of the report in full and how it should be implemented.
“The report sets out a number of changes that Welsh Liberal Democrats have been calling for, including a move to a more individual-focused learning experience for Welsh pupils. It could also cause embarrassment for the Welsh Labour Government as it recommends changing systems like school categorisation that have only been changed within the last year.
“There are a lot of questions about putting these recommendations into practice. Will a pupil already halfway through their education be expected to study music or art at GCSE to fulfil the requirements of the areas of learning, even if their education so far hasn’t prepared them for that?
“We look forward to discuss this review and its implications with teachers, the Minister and the other political parties in due course.”
