Commenting following the Chancellors Comprehensive Spending Review this afternoon, Welsh Liberal Democrat Welsh Affairs Spokesperson Mark Williams said:
"This is a spending round that delivers Lib Dem priorities on investment and improving our public services while making responsible choices to deal with the financial problems Labour left us.
"Despite difficult funding decisions being made in Westminster, I am pleased that the budget to spend on infrastructure has not been cut. A 0.3% real terms increase to capital allocations will allow the Welsh Government to focus spending on infrastructure projects and support growth in the economy. Increased capital funding was the key demand of the Welsh Government ahead of this spending round and the Coalition Government is delivering that despite the difficult economic circumstances the UK is facing.
"In dealing with the difficult financial situation, many departments and budgets have had to make difficult decisions. I am therefore pleased that the decrease for the Welsh Government's budget is less than the overall reduction to the whole of the UK Government of -2.6% and considerably less than the cuts to other UK departments."
